RFMD Recognized as 'Electronics Company of the Year' by The North Carolina Technology Association

GREENSBORO, N.C., Dec 12, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- RF Micro Devices (NASDAQ: RFMD), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, today announced that it was recognized as the "Electronics Company of the Year" by the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA) at its annual NCTA 21 Awards banquet. The NCTA 21 Awards are the oldest and most prestigious technology awards in North Carolina and recognize outstanding contributions made by information technology companies and individuals each year to the industry, community and state.

"Being named our state's 'Electronics Company of the Year' speaks volumes about the high caliber and exceptional quality of our employees," said Bob Bruggeworth, president and CEO for RF Micro Devices. "RFMD is one of the world's foremost experts in wireless radio technology. We will continue to recruit and attract top-notch electronics engineers from within our state, across the country and around the world, fostering an atmosphere of persistent growth and sustained success for years to come." RFMD partners with area academic institutions and other organizations to recruit and train employees from Greensboro and the surrounding areas for a variety of positions in the Company.

RFMD is an industry leader in developing radio technology critical to advanced mobile devices. The Company is the world's largest supplier of power amplifiers (PAs) to major handset manufacturers, shipping an average of 1.5 million components per day. RFMD also provides leading transmit and transceiver solutions that enable next-generation communications capabilities, reduced handset form factors and high levels of integration and functionality.

"We are thrilled to be chosen as the Electronics Company of the Year by an organization that champions technology and business in our state," said Jerry Neal, executive vice president of marketing and strategic development for RFMD. "North Carolina is a hotbed for innovation and growth. This award further solidifies RFMD's position as a technology leader in a leading technology state."

Grant Thornton, a leading accounting, tax and business advisory organization, directed the NCTA awards selection process earlier this year in collaboration with past and present NCTA chairpersons. The awards were grouped in five categories: technology industry awards, stage of development awards, functional awards, leadership awards and excellence awards. Other 2005 NCTA 21 award winners include market leading companies such as: Red Hat, Large Company of the Year; Progress Energy, Corporate Citizenship of the Year; Motricity, Private Company of the Year; and EMC Corporation, Corporate Education.

"The 11th annual NCTA 21 Awards program continues our tradition of celebrating the best in the technology industry in our state," said Joan Myers, president and chief executive officer. "I'd like to congratulate our finalists and award recipients for their passion to lead, innovate and create."
