RFMD Extends Support of 3G Wireless Devices in High-Growth U.S. and Japanese Markets; RFMD's Portfolio Of Next-Generation Power Amplifier Modules Provide High-Efficiency Support Across All Major WCDMA MarketsBARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2006--RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, today announced the availability of a new high-efficiency linear power amplifier (PA) module - the RF5184. This newest addition to RFMD's market-leading PA portfolio is specifically designed to be the final RF amplifier in high-performance WCDMA wireless handheld devices and is a dual-band product that supports Region 2 (1850-1910MHz) and Region 5/6 (824-849MHz). In conjunction with the highly-successful RF5198 single-band PA for Region 1 (1920-1980MHz), RFMD is uniquely positioned with RF solutions in industry-leading form factors for all three of the current WCDMA markets - Europe, United States and Japan.

"RFMD is the leading supplier of power amplifiers for next-generation handheld devices," said Konrad Alvarino, General Manager, Components Business Unit at RFMD. "In 2005, the Company shipped its power amplifiers into more than half of the world's 3G wireless handsets and accumulated design wins with 4 out of the top 5 handset manufacturers through our well-established presence in the most successful reference design platforms. With the RF5184, RFMD expands its support of WCDMA-enabled devices into the United States and Japan regional markets, where WCDMA penetration is expected to grow significantly."

According to Gartner research, the WCDMA market is expected to double to over 100 million handsets in 2006. In order to support the continued growth and evolution of this next-generation air interface standard in its regionally-specific markets, RFMD will continue to expand and strengthen its WCDMA PA portfolio.
